Well into their 7th year, the band finally reached the goal they'd dreamed of from the beginning - recording a major label album. With the help of A&R man Gary Gersh, they compiled a wish list of top notch producers, and eventually chose to work with Rupert Hine, a world class record maker whose resume included over 100 albums. The pairing was perfect, as Rupert quickly proved he had the ability to bring out the very best in Gravity. The band had spent the previous 6 months churning out over 24 songs for consideration for inclusion on the record, and the 10 that made the cut were unanimously agreed by all involved to be the cream of the crop. Six weeks at Long View Farm studios in rural Massachusetts and two weeks mixing in Los Angeles brought to a conclusion a year long process that resulted in Start. The overall air about the recording sessions could only be described as elation... it was apparent from the start that this would be a special project for everyone. The emotional bond of deep friendship and respect that holds Gravity together grew to encompass Rupert, Steve, and Ruadhri, and that strength brought a positive energy to the recording sessions that no doubt contributed to the quality of the end result. The sad farewells at the conclusion of the project were proof that the team had truly become family. The experience was one Thanks To Gravity will not soon forget, and was well worth the 7 years of struggle it took to achieve.
